Sorry Twinkies fans, but the Twinkie got sent back to its own planet. The Ho-Ho moves on to the next round.

Quote du taste-off: "[Sno-Balls] are like mopeds. It's fun, until your friends see you on it."

Next week the Hostess Cupcake faces off against the Yankee Doodle and the Chocodile!

The seeds:

  2. Hostess Cupcakes
  3. Yodels
  4. Ring Dings
  5. Devil Dogs
  6. Ding Dongs
  7. Yankee Doodles
  8. Ho-Hos
  9. Funny Bones
  10. Sunny Doodles
  11. Chocodiles
  12. Sno-Balls

For the quarter finals, seeds 1, 8, and 12 will face off in Week 1, followed by seeds 2, 7, and 11 in Week 2; seeds 3, 6, and 10 in Week 3; ending with seeds 4, 5, and 9 in Week 4.

Donuts Best in Show

It was an exciting week in donutdom, as the winners of the prior week's competitions faced off for Best in Show. Everybody ranked their 3 favorites out of the 5 winners, with 1st place getting a 3 point weighting, 2nd place getting 2 points, and 3rd getting 1.

And the winner is... The Dunkin Donuts Boston Kreme donut (to just about no one's surprise). 6 of the 8 judges voted for it as their 1st place winner, so it easily takes Best in Show with 18 points.

First runner-up went to the Dunkin Donuts Jelly. It got one vote for 1st place, 3 for 2nd, and 2 for 3rd, so it gets first runner-up with 11 total points.

Second runner-up was a surprise - the Krispy Kreme Chocolate Glazed donut. Many were expecting the regular Krispy Kreme glazed to make a higher showing, but the chocolate glazed capture 3 2nd place votes and 1 3rd place vote, squeaking into second runner-up status with 7 points.

The Dunkin Donuts Chocolate Iced donut and the Krispy Kreme Glazed both received a mere 6 points, although not one person voted for the Krispy Kreme Glazed for 1st place (1 voted for the Iced for 1st place). The Glazed did get 2 2nd place votes and 2 3rd place votes, while the Iced received no 2nd place votes, but 3 3rd place votes.

All in all a tasty experience.

Krispy Kreme Wins Glazed Straight Up

Not surprisingly, Krispy Kreme has won the straight-up glazed category. The glazed donut is its strength. However, Dunkin Donuts made a better showing than might have been suspected. Most surprising was that Dunkin Donuts took the donut taste category, although it lost all others.

Krispy Kreme wins with a 1.75:1 ratio. Not quite the landslide.

Quote du taste off: "Does that thing even have glaze on it?"
