Fat People Got No Reason. . .
Unless it were an historical drama of the black-face era, it would not be acceptable to make a movie today with whites dressed in black face, not even in jest. A movie like The Bird Cage would probably get slammed today. A movie of women in subservient positions, unless it were trying to make a political point, would be unacceptable as well. Yet for some reason, it's still acceptable to make fun of obese people. Why?

Oh come on, Jon, you know blackface is still perfectly acceptable in many circles, including liberal blogs. (In fact, sometimes it seems that liberal bloggers get more incensed about fatphobia than about blackface!)

This is absolutely, sadly true. The latter is the very reason I won't read certain liberal blogs anymore. Not only do they not get incensed, they defend it.

I don't read the liberal blogs or blogs in general. Anyway, I'm talking about mainstream media and entertainment. You can make fun of overweight people and get away with it. There's something wrong about that.
