My Top 100 Movie Quotes
The American Film Institute has released its list of the top 100 movie quotes. I agree with a lot of them, although there are some I would not have listed, like that damn sappy line from "Love Story". All right, it did have a big cultural impact, because people still quote it to this day. But I'm with Ryan O'Neal's character from "What's Up, Doc?". "That's the dumbest thing I ever heard."
Michele is asking people to come up with their list of most memorable movie quotes. Since I'm going to be posting a lot of them, I'm going to do it here. However, if you want to play the game, please go to her comments section and play there. It is her idea, after all. I'm only leaving comments open here so you can mock me for my choices.
In no particular order and to be updated throughout the day.
- "Yippie-kye-aye, motherfucker!" - Die Hard
- "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." - The Silence of the Lambs (I cannot hear the words liver, fava beans, and/or chianti without immediately hearing this line in my head.)
- "Does your dog bite?" "No." ... "I thought you said your dog doesn't bite." "It's not my dog." - The Pink Panther Strikes Again
- "Yes, it's true. This man has no dick." - Ghostbusters
- "Lighten up, Francis." - Stripes
- "Party on, Wayne." - Wayne's World
- "No, I am your father." - The Empire Strikes Back
- "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries. Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time." - Monty Python
- "You talkin' to me?" - Taxi Driver
- "That is a tasty burger." - Pulp Fiction
- "Don't be stupid, be a smarty. Come and join the Nazi party." - The Producers
- "Frankenstein. Frankenstein." - Young Frankenstein
- "What we've got here is failure to communicate." - Cool Hand Luke
- "And don't call me Shirley." - Airplane. Okay, I never thought this one would make it on the AFI list, since I figured they would be way too snobby. They weren't. So they got that going for them. Speaking of which...
- "So I've got that going for me." - Caddyshack
- "...remember, no matter where you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Banzai
- "Oh, baby, you're so talented... and they are so dumb." - Blazing Saddles
- "All we are is dust in the wind, dude." - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
- "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry Mr. bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset, people DIE!" - Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery
- "Smurfs are asexual. They don't even have reproductive organs under those little white pants. That's what's so illogical, you know, about being a Smurf. What's the point of living if you don't have a dick?" - Donnie Darko
- "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes." - The Godfather. Oddly, I personally prefer that quote to "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."
- "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum." - They Live. I totally have to figure out how to work that quote into my every day speech.
- "Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?" ... "I lied." - Commando. This may, in fact, be my favorite movie quote ever.
- "Good, bad. I'm the guy with the gun." - Army of Darkness
- "Yeah, two youts." - My Cousin Vinny
- "The world is a big place. Thank goodness my needs are small. As it turns out, I have this affinity for beach front property." "What do you want?" "Australia!" - Superman II
- "You fargin' sneaky bastage." - Johnny Dangerously
- "It's showtime!" - Betelgeuse
- "They are? Well, as of this moment, they're on double secret probation!" - Animal House
- "There is no spoon." - The Matrix
- "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." - The Princess Bride
- "Feed me, Seymour." - Little Shop of Horrors
- "Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?" - 2001: A Space Odyssey. I know this isn't the quote most people would pick from the film, but for some reason, it's the one that always stuck with me. Pretty amazing, considering I was 5 when I saw the film, and I fell asleep for large parts of it. But that one line, I have always remembered.
- "Hungadunga, Hungadunga, Hungadunga, and McCormick. Dear Sirs, question mark" - Animal Crackers
- "You can only fool a Firefly twice." - Duck Soup
- "Sa da tay" - Pootie Tang
- "'Greater good?' I am your wife! I'm the greatest good you are ever gonna get!" - The Incredibles
- "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again." - Rebecca. Best opening line of a book ever.

- "It's good to be the king." - History of the World, Part I
- "I was born a poor black child." - The Jerk
- "Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!" - The King and I

- "We came; we saw; we kicked it's ass." - Ghostbusters
- "...1 million dollars!" - Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery
- "Donny, you're out of your element." - The Big Lebowski
- "But this is the hand I shoot with." - Blazing Saddles
- "Oh, an Oriental." - What's Up Tiger Lily.
- "All right, you primitive screwheads, listen up. This is my boomstick." - Army of Darkness
- "You know, walk the earth. Meet people. Get into adventures. Like Cain in Kung Fu." - Pulp Fiction
- "Milt, we're gonna need to go ahead and move you downstairs into storage B. We have some new people coming in, and we need all the space we can get. So if you could go ahead and pack up your stuff and move it down there, that would be terrific, OK?" - Office Space
- "I know I'm gonna miss her. A tomato ate my sister." - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Okay, so it's from the theme song. Still, it counts. Right?
- "Hello, Dr. Banzai. Penny for your thoughts?" - Buckaroo Banzai
- "Where are we going?" "Planet 10!" "When?" "Real soon!" - Buckaroo Banzai

- "KHAAAAANNNNN!" - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Comments
Vincent Mancini: Don Lucchesi, you are a man of finance and politics. These things I don't understand.
Don Lucchesi: You understand guns?
Vincent Mancini: Yes.
Don Lucchesi: Finance is a gun. Politics is knowing when to pull the trigger.
Godfather Part III

small correction: I believe #34 should end "Gentleman, question mark."

Sigh. I stand corrected! Indeed, it is "Gentlemen, question mark."

My all time favorite quote, and I can't even remember the movie: "I'm not gonna hit ya. No, I'm not gonna hit ya. Like hell I'm not." John Wayne
It's hell to get old...

A Google turned up that quote (or something similar) coming from the movie McClintock.

One of my favorites, but I can't imagine it on too many other lists:
(while handing other character a rifle)
"Gordy's gone, man. I'll be outside. Good luck."

Hi, Lesley! One of my favorites is from Reservoir Dogs - from Mister Blonde:
"Are you gonna bark all day, little doggie? Or are you gonna bite?"

You beat me to it! I just watched that movie for the first time on Saturday, and I was going to add that line (I still will). And I swear, I was planning it before I even read your comment.

is anybody familiar with the line" for some reason i've been given a second chance, so i'm taking my work underground...I can't let it get into the wrong hands again"

I wasn't, but a quote search on IMDB shows it's from The Lawnmower Man.

I was looking at number 38 and I thought of my favorite opening line:
"The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."
- from "The Go-Between"
