The Problem with an All Republic Administration

The little folk get shafted to protect the interests of the privileged few. First there's the bankruptcy bill, which Rick analyzes nicely. Now, senior Republicans in Congress are moving to save farm subsidies at the expense of food programs for the poor. Feed fat cats, but let people who really need help go hungry. How do these people look at the themselves in the mirror?

And how do the people being shafted vote for that same Administration? Bush was defeated in every large, affluent, urban state.

But that's the administration, not the Republic. ;)

Without going back and looking at the exit polls, I can't tell you how lesser income people in the Bush states voted. They may have voted for Kerry. I can be pretty certain that lesser income people in the affluent urban states that went for Kerry went for Kerry as well. Keep in mind, though, that exit polls showed it was moral values that swayed the election. In the heartland states that went for Bush, it was concerns about religion and gay marriage that put him over the top, not concerns about the economy or homeland security. People fell for the red herring, and they are paying and now realize they are paying as judged by polls about his performance.

Actually, I completely disagree with your analysis of the exit polls. They showed that Iraq and terrorism combined scored higher than moral values. So did the economy and taxation combined. See here, where I show how those issues polled. I really think it's false to split Iraq from terrorism, since in the minds of a lot of people, they are inextricably intertwined. I also think it's ridiculous to separate taxes from the economy.

Rabbit season!
