Surely They Jest
Ok, even without Andy Roddick or Roger Federer, I still have an interest in watching the Men's Final at the Aussie Open. Alas, they've bumped it to prime time this year - and in case you're wondering, that's prime time in Australia, not here. It's on at 7:30 pm Down Under, which equates to. . . 3:30 am here. Good thing I bought that DVD recorder. The Women's Final is at a more reasonable time, on in just 4 hours from now.

Well, it is, after all, the Australian Open. It's not as if the U.S. Open is played at particularly fabby times for Australian tennis fans.

Adjusting for the 16 hours that Australia is ahead of us, you are correct about the U.S. Open Men’s Final, but not the Women’s Final. The Men’s Final is played at 4 pm on Sunday, which is 8 am Monday in Australia. Not convenient, yet not as hideous as 3:30 am. The Women’s Final, though, is on in prime time Saturday night, which is late morning to early afternoon Sunday in Australia.

During the time of the U.S. Open, Australia is only 14 hours ahead. They're on Daylight Savings Time now, but during our summer, they are not. This shortens the time difference by tw hours. This makes it 6 am Monday in Australia.

Yeah, yeah, the point still holds. 6 am is better than 3:30 am, and the Women's Final would begin mid morning. So there!

Actually 6 am is not a bad time at all. You get up early, take half a day, and come in the afternoon after having watched the match. I like it!
