Here's a free clue - If you don't know who I am, you have the wrong number.

Great one, Lesley! This is almost exactly what my husband recently said. I'm trying to talk him into pretending to be a butler in an English residence to freak out wrong-number callers (of which we get a lot, for some reason) into thinking they've somehow dialed the UK...

I also like this one: I'll pick up and say, "Hello" and this is followed by a 3-4 second silence. Then the voice on the other end says, "Uh hello?". At this point I just patiently say, "What number are you calling?" and I get "Uh - oh - uh I guess I dialed a wrong number".

Elayne - That would be excellent! I hope you talk him into it.
Pest - Yes, but this was on my cell phone and listed as Private. I don't get telemarketers on my cell phone, so I thought it might be someone I knew.
