Today's Moment of Duh

The first sentence of a caption from a slide show about the New York Cat Show (emphasis mine).

The Norwegian Forest Cat originated in Norway. It is a hardy, cat with a thick coat, well-equipped to survive the Scandanavian winters. These cats have almond-shaped eyes and are found in most colors and patterns.

Tomorrow we'll probably learn that the Siamese originated in Thailand (f/k/a Siam).

Ooh, what a pretty kitty! I actually think they say that (even though it's awkward writing) because some animals are mis-named and didn't actually originate in the countries whose names they bear...

Like the Bombay, which orginated in Kentucky. Or the Abyssinian, which is believed to have come from southern to southeastern Asia. And since Abys are one of the parent breeds of the Somali cat, it would then stand to reason that Somalis aren't from Somalia. Or the Havana Brown, which is from somewhere other than Cuba.

My ex-girlfriend has an NFC. They're great cats.

The cat show people just make this shit up. They all come from New Jersey. I used to work at the place as bottle-washer.
