Night Falls Over the Great Estate of Collinwood
TiVo is a wonderful thing. I love it. Since installing it, I have been able to feed my unnatural desire for that fabulous gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows. (No, not Port Charles, which has merely gotten goofy since it went all supernatural, despite allowing me to look at Michael Easton on a regular basis. Although it's been cancelled now, so it really doesn't matter.) I have loved Dark Shadows since I first saw it in reruns as a teenager. What's not to love? Vampires, witches, werewolves, parallel time, and a Dorian Gray-esque character (played by none other than the immensely hot David Selby) acted by a cast that knew how to do supernatural without being goofy. They were human beings first. The supernatural was secondary.
While getting my daily bite, I kept seeing commercials for the Dark Shadows DVD Club. The allure of owning the series on DVD finally cast its witching spell on me, and I joined. Today my first shipment came, along with the special gift of a Barnabas Collins bobblehead doll.

I just can't figure out why there's dog poop by Barnabas' shoe.
Be quiet, I know they're supposed to be leaves.

Wow now you have opened up some memories that show scared the crap out od me when I was a kid, now it seems so hokey. Did you ever see the NBC nighttime remake? It was actually very good. The productions values were, of course much better, it did not have that daytime soap smarminess though.

I remembered having to watch Dark Shadows every day when I was a kid. It was, and still is, the only Soap that I could actually watch with any interest. It scared the beejeebers out of me.

OMG...Dark Shadows!!! I loved that show...the Dark Shadows movie was on last year. I actually got up at 4:00 am to watch it. David Selby and Kate Jackson...plus the people who played Carolyn, Willie, Angelique, etc...
My aunt lived a couple of houses up from my grandmother and every summer, she and I had a daily lunch date to watch Dark Shadows together.
Very campy and I loved it but that doctor (what the heck was her name?) had to have been the WORST actress I have ever seen.

You must mean Dr. Julia Hoffman, played by Grayson Hall. Yes, she did over-act a lot. And whoever did her make-up needed to be shot.

Ah, Dark Shadows, the first time I ran away from soap operas because Everybody I Knew in high school was watching them. :)
