You Need Power to Access the Internet, People!
Michele brings to my attention a column by Greg Palast, in which he manages to blame Bush for the fact that the government(s) (federal, state, and local) didn't bother to upgrade the nation's power grid after the 1977 blackout, despite promises of safeguards to make sure such a grid failure could not occur again. I don't know, but it strikes me that there's a lot more blame to go around over a 26-year period than just that attached to the latest President.
However, my favorite part of Palast's column is:
And that's why, if you're in the Northeast, you're reading this by candlelight tonight.
Okay, Greg, if you're in the Northeast and need to use candlelight to read, you're sure as hell not reading anyone's weblog, let alone yours. You know, it's that whole computers need power to operate thing. Sure, you might have been trying to make a point, but you could have just as easily said "And that's why, if you're in the Northeast, you can't read this tonight." Yours just sounds silly.
I'm just saying.

His column was widely avaialable in newspapers... although I think it was published in America the morning after... if it was printed there at all but must have been as he's syndicated by quite a few nespapers. so maybe he should have said sun instead of candle. In pakistan i read it in a paper while the blackout was still going on in the US...
