Still Waiting
Roger Clemens is still waiting for his 300th win. Sure, you say, you can understand how he could blow his 300th win on a good team like the Red Sox. But come on, couldn't any idiot (other than Jeff Weaver who used to play for Detroit) beat a team like Detroit? A team that is playing .267 ball? Up until the 5th inning, you'd have thought so. Roger had a 7-1 lead. And then he and the Yankees fell apart. 5 runs and 3 errors later, the inning was over. It looked like the Yankees were still going to win this when they scored another run in the 6th, making it a 8-6 game. But Roger was not to be so fortunate. The Tigers got 2 runs in the 7th, tying it up. It then took the Yankees 9 innings to score again, finally winning the game in the 17th inning 10-9. David Wells, who wound up pitching 5.2 innings, now has a 7-2 record, and Roger has to wait until Saturday against the Cubs to try again. If he keeps this up, he might actually get 4,000 strikeouts (he's 9 short) before he gets 300 wins.
Comments
If you thought watching that game on TV was bad, imagine flying out there the day of the game and ruining what was otherwise an incredible Sunday afternoon...
