DVDs of Death

The news is out about Uday's secret stash of videotapes. Yes, he collected such "gems" as Like Father, Like Son and License to Kill. Well, Michele wants to know what DVDs or videotapes you'd run to hide if you knew the public was going to find out. I fessed up that I'd hide my copies of Bring It On and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I'm slightly embarassed to admit that the movie Dick is one of my favorite comedies. Yes, it's goofy. Yes, it involves primarily a former-Saturday Night Live cast. But it's dopey in that really funny sort of way. My vote for best political comedy.

Most of the stuff I'd actually run and hide are my wife's movies -- musicals and such. Of course, she'd kill me if I touched them.

Hide Willie Wonka? Whatever for? I think it's one of the best kid's movies ever made and one of Gene Wilder's best roles after the Mel Brooks trio (Producers, Young Frankenstein & Blazing Saddles). I never saw the film until I had kids because I was too old when it came out, but I'm sorry it took me so long. Actually I feel pretty comfortable with my purchased DVD collection since I mostly only buy the few movies I really like and feel like watching again every year or so. My current stack from Netflix or my TIVO list on the other hand might bring some red cheeks since I my general movie watching philosophy is to see everything. You never know when you might stumble on some B-Movie classic, but you have to wade through a lot of stinking piles to find them.

John - Because I don't have kids (yet). Shhh. I also own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I also saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for the first time with my kids. I like that too but not nearly as much as Wonka. The first time my kids saw it they were terrified by the children catcher in the second half and I had to turn it off. (Like I said, I never saw it before so who knew?) but two days later they were begging to see it again and have watched it fifty times since with nary a wimper. Amazing how resilient they are.
