Useful Fools asks the question "What would you do with UN Headquarters?" Well, being a Manhattanite, I'd put up a parking lot. We need more parking. And less diplomats breaking our traffic laws.

Although I agree with your sentiments about diplomatic immunity, I'd rather see the US' general attitude about the UN done away with than the UN itself. I continue to believe the UN is the best possible means presently at hand to work out international conflicts. Shame the US doesn't let it do its job.

It is really not just the U.S. that doesn't let it do its job. No country will, because to really let it do its job would mean ceding national sovereignty. We are not the only country who does not want to do that. Every other country is included in that list.
The only real thing the U.N. could be effective at, if the world would make up its mind to let it be that, would be as a great big conference room. As a place for governments to get together and hash out their differences. Until the world is ready to cede national sovereignty to an international body, however, it will not be effective at anything else. So all governments should, IMO, stop seeking to use it as more than it really is. No more resolutions "requiring" countries to do anything.
