The Lion's Share of Defeat
Has it occurred to Rev. Jackson that perhaps no minority candidates wanted the job of coaching a team with a 3-13 record? A team that hasn't won a has won only one playoff game in 45 years? That has only made it to the playoffs 9 times during those 45 years and only 14 times in the 69-year franchise history?

Lesley, not be argumentative, but the Lions Have won exactly ONE playoff game in the last 45 seasons. That was in 1991 in round two (The Lions Actually earned a by that year) against the Cowboys at the SilverDome. They then progressed to the NFC championship game to have their ass's seriously stomped by the Red Skins.
Living in Detriot I have to hang on to even the slightest bit of football glory, it comes so seldom.

They always gete beat by the Redskins, they go to the NFC title game, in Washington, fumble the fist snap from scrimmage and the rest is downhill.

My take is that the Lions moved to change their head coach only after Steve Marriuci became available. They had their eyes on Marriuci and only Marriuci at that point. Why should they have to go through the charade of interviewing someone else they have intention of hiring only to be politically correct? That's more demeaning than bypassing minority candidates all together.
