This piece of brilliant insight from Don Mattingly, courtesy of the NY Post:

After Williams returned to the dugout, Don Mattingly went to the ice-cold Alex Rodriguez and said it was time to discuss the reason A-Rod looked awful in the clutch twice and is mired in a 7-for-45 (.156) slide that includes 18 Ks.

"Tonight I saw enough," Mattingly said after watching A-Rod strike out looking in the seventh with runners on second and third, and swinging to leave the bases jammed in the eighth. "At that point we needed to have an intervention."

Either Mattingly had no clue what was wrong with A-Rod up until now or just didn't do a damn thing about it until now. Either way it doesn't say much about Mattingly as a hitting coach. Waiting two weeks before stepping in? Watching A-Rod strike out at a pace that rivals Soriano's futility in the 2003 post-season. Nice going Don. Glad to know you're on top of things. Let's just hope that you're right. The Yanks need A-Rod back desperately.

We now have all the proof we need that Barry Bonds, baseball's most notorius cheat, is guilty of taking steriods. According to the Miami Herald, his attorney has said that Bonds will cooperate with baseball's investigation provided that baseball doesn't turn his testimony over to the Feds. Hmm. I can think of only one way to interpret that. He's guilty! It's all but an admission that he took steroids. Toss him from the game and expunge his records from the books.

With Coalition of the Dark Side defunct, I have launched a new site with the help of my sister, Lesley, to fill the void in my Yankees blogging life. Lesley has done all the leg work in setting up the site and is even hosting it for me. Thanks to her.

The site will be about, what else, doings with the New York Yankees and baseball in general. I will seek out co-conspirators to help keep the site stocked with material.

The design you see now is temporary. Lesley will help there as well. I will also be setting up new categories, and with the help of Michele, the owner of Darkside, will probably migrate the entries from Darkside over here.
